The ongoing territorial transformation worldwide has raised global concern, creating the momentum to study, assess, and envision new development strategies involving design as a key-factor to rethink the way we plan and promote local development. This is especially true for low-density territories, currently suffering from accelerated land-use change processes, in which the enhancement and the creation of added value to endogenous products poses significant challenges for designers in terms of product, packaging, and creation of visual and graphic identities able to translate values and cultures to their territories. In this regard, the present Special Issue intends to address subjects such as design for sustainability; design for valorization of the territory and endogenous resources; valorization of endogenous resources brands; and design and branding for sustainability, among others.
Keywords: Design and branding for sustainability; Sustainable design; Low density territories; Visual and graphic identity; Packaging; Intelligent design; Local development; Sustainable society; Life cycle assessment.
